Celebrate Womanhood and Body Positivity with “The Girls Talkin’” in Santa Monica
An Inclusive Celebration of Women’s Experiences and Journeys
Santa Monica, California, October 5th, 2023 – Visions of Possibilities is delighted to announce ‘The Girls Talkin’,’ an extraordinary and empowering theatrical experience that celebrates the beauty of womanhood while igniting genuine and meaningful conversations about women’s bodies and their unique connections with themselves. This groundbreaking event will take place on November 5th, 2023, at 7:30 P.M. at The Other Space at Santa Monica Playhouse, as part of the BFF Binge Fringe Festival of FREE Theatre, featuring a powerful script by the renowned Sonia Jackson. Special Note: On November 5th, viewers will be treated to both a live performance and a live stream of the show, which will be followed by an engaging Q&A session. Those who can’t join the live event can enjoy the stream anytime from November 6th through November 19th, 2023.
“The Girls Talkin” is also a master class focused on embracing body positivity and celebrating the unique experiences of women. It builds upon previously held conversations about the experiences of girls and brings together actresses and everyday women to share stories that resonate with audiences from all walks of life.
‘The Girls Talkin” brings together a stellar ensemble of talented individuals. Among the remarkable lineup is: Sonia Jackson, the visionary Master Storyteller and actress with 30+ years in entertainment, who is the driving force behind Visions of Possibilities, a non-profit edutainment platform. Her theatrical prowess shines through acclaimed roles and impactful solo shows, focusing on women’s issues and earning dual NAACP Theater Award nominations, while her spirituality infuses a unique depth into her performances, inspiring a deep connection with audiences and empowering women to embrace their elegance and power.
Candace Sofia Carnicelli, a versatile actress and peace activist,renowned for her impactful one-woman show ‘Becoming Peace’ and serving as the Executive Director of nonprofit Common Peace, inspired by mentor Rev. James Lawson, Jr.
Chanel Woodard, a multifaceted storyteller, celebrates her journey from LA with a background in Psychology and Cinema, thriving in acting while embracing life’s simple joys, from library nooks to indie concerts and her passion for eccentric films.
Elektra Cohen, a versatile actress and dedicated educator in California, brings her talent honed through diverse acting experiences to Towne Street Theater, alongside her passion for photography and her excitement to contribute to Sonia’s empowering celebration of women’s strength in ‘The Girls Talking’
Joahn Webb, a seasoned actress with training from the prestigious Negro Ensemble Company, boasts a prolific career spanning over 60 theatrical productions across the United States, including her role as a founding member of the Beverly Hills/Hollywood NAACP Theatre Awards.
Liliana DeRossi, a versatile native New Yorker, embarked on her theatrical journey with Shakespeare on the Sound before venturing to LA to explore the entertainment industry as a writer and singer-songwriter, all while enjoying outdoor activities and culinary adventures
Lily Patel, a multifaceted talent with a background in classical opera, acting, screenwriting, and civil rights law, recently completed her Masters of Laws in Food and Agricultural Law, and passionately advocates for food security, women’s issues, and gender equality while actively participating in charitable endeavors.
Lily Shaw, a dynamic actress, nationally recognized inspirational writer, and self-empowerment speaker, draws inspiration from her love for cinema since childhood, and is a pioneer in pursuing a creative profession, inspiring others to embrace their unique talents and voices.
Nancy Barragan, a Los Angeles-based actor, voiceover artist, and improviser, started her journey with improv at Turbine Arts and Sills/Spolin Theater Works. She’s graced numerous LA stage and film productions, including the soon-to-be-released feature film “Alien Vacation.” Committed to community impact, she brings theater to LAUSD elementary schools, inspiring young minds through improvisation, and embracing the power of positive influence.
Lynndi Scott, a stage enthusiast, has graced audiences with her captivating performances across California and Florida, showcasing her remarkable versatility in both leading and supporting roles that draw from her diverse life experiences. Her return to “The Girls Talkin'” at the Santa Monica Binge Fringe Festival holds a special place, building on her earlier success in the play “Conversations ‘Bout the Girls” at The Greenway Court Theater and the Globe Playhouse, and promising a fresh perspective on embracing and celebrating femininity.
Mariel Josette Mickens, a Texas-born actress, honed her love for acting through school plays and local theaters in Houston. Her own one-woman show “Fishing for Love: Coming Out and Tackling It,” has graced numerous theaters and venues in Los Angeles. Mariel has also made her mark in commercials, film, and television, showcasing her versatile talent and adding to her creative journey.
This production provides a platform where most women can recognize themselves, fostering a sense of community and empowerment. It’s a celebration of womanhood that transcends boundaries and stereotypes, promoting inclusivity, self-love, and genuine connections among women. One of the actors, Lynndi Scott said “Always fun and a great experience when you can tell real stories that are at times heartwarming, at other times not so easy, yet meaningful & appreciated.”
